About the Producer
Today, Chateau Michel Magnan owns a total area of 19 hectares of vineyards, of which there are many grand crus and first crus, mainly distributed in Gevrey Chambertin, Chambord-Mou Wine regions such as Chambolle Musigny and Morey Saint Denis. Most of the winery’s vineyards in Gevrey-Chambertin face east, with limestone soils mixed with a small amount of gravel and strong water retention. The average altitude of the vineyards in Chambord-Musigny is around 270 meters, with clay soils prevailing. The average altitude of the winery's vineyards in Morey-Saint-Denis ranges from 270 to 320 meters, and most of them are dominated by clayey chalk soils. Michel Magnan has always cultivated grapes using biodynamic cultivation methods, strictly pruning the grape branches, reducing the yield of grapes and improving their aroma and flavor. He has extremely strict requirements for wine quality. The quality of the 1997 and 1998 vintages of Château Michel Magnan was greatly compromised by mould infection in the new cellar, so Michel Magnan would rather suffer heavy losses than sell them .
