The most concentrated, seriously structured, backward cuvee is the 2007 Cornas Billes Noires. Displaying enormous potential, it offers an opaque purple color along with a perfume of graphite, pen ink, blackberries, bouquet garni, and roasted meats. This enormously-endowed, full-bodied, dense, chewy wine should evolve for 15 or more years. (Not yet released) Proprietor Matthieu Barret is another member of Cornas’ younger generation of producers who have embraced the use of smaller barrels as well as more sanitary vinification techniques. The results are wines imbued with good purity, sweeter tannins, appellation typicity, and more approachable styles that retain 15 or more years of aging potential. About the Producer
Matthieu Barret Domaine Du Coulet is a renowned winery located in the Cornas region of the Rhône Valley in France. Founded by Matthieu Barret in 1998, a young grape grower and winemaker dedicated to producing high-quality Cornas wines. The vineyards of Matthieu Barret Domaine Du Coulet cover an area of approximately 7.5 hectares, planted with the Syrah grape variety. These vineyards are situated on steep slopes in the Cornas region, with diverse soil types including granite, schist, and sandy clay. These unique soils and geographical conditions give the winery the ability to produce distinctive wines with intense fruit aromas and complex flavors. The wines of Matthieu Barret Domaine Du Coulet are produced using traditional hand-picking and winemaking techniques, without the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, to ensure the purity and natural flavor of the wines.
