The Marchesi di Barolo 2016 Barolo Coste di Rose delivers exactly what the vineyard's name suggests: aromas of wild rose and dried violet. On the back of those floral tones are some tangy touches of wild berry and dried apricot with tar, tobacco and black licorice. Within the greater Marchesi di Barolo portfolio, this wine is uniquely floral, with soft, approachable tannins. You could age this wine or sample it straight out of the gate with some grilled porcini. About 7,000 bottles were made.

Beautifully perfumed with cherry, dried-strawberry and walnut character, as well as undertones of tar. Medium-to full-bodied with creamy, chewy tannins and light chocolate and berry undertones. Fine-textured at the end. Try after 2022.

The 2016 Barolo Coste di Rose is soft, supple and pliant. Red berry fruit, spice and cedar give this approachable Barolo a good bit of aromatic nuance to match its mid-weight personality.

About the Producer

The Marchesi di Barolo is located in the town of Barolo in the Piedmont region of Italy, overlooking the castle of Marquis Falletti. This is the birthplace of the world-famous Barolo wines. At the time, no one could have imagined the day when the Barolo wines produced here would become the king of wines and the wine of kings. The long history of the Marquis of Barolo dates back to 1870. At that time, the Marquis of Barolo Carlo Tancredi Falletti married Juliette Colbert de Maulévrier, the granddaughter of the famous finance minister of the Sun King of France, in Paris. In 1864, Juliette's death marked the end of the reign of the Faletti dynasty. In honour of the Marquise, the magnificent Palazzo Barolo was built in Turin. Pietro Abbona, together with his brother Ernesto and his sisters Marina and Celestina, mastered the old cellar methods and improved the winemaking techniques of the estate. The wines of the Barolo region are known worldwide. The quality of the Barolo wines produced by the Abbona family has become so highly regarded thanks to the help of the Marquise Falletti. The huge oak barrels in which the Barolo wines are aged were in fact bequeathed by the Marquise. Today, the Abbona family is committed to producing high quality wines, and year after year, the winemaking techniques, viticultural practices and wine culture have been passed on for more than five generations. The Marquis de Barolo is blessed with an ideal environment for growing grapes of Sangiovese, Nebbiolo and Colorino varieties, producing Barolo Cannubi, Barolo Coste di Rose and Barolo del Comune. Barolo Cannubi, Barolo Coste di Rose and Barolo del Comune di Barolo are some of the wines that have won many awards for their quality.
