Barolo is a world-renowned wine producing region in Italy. There are three major wine villages in Barolo: Barolo, La Morra and Monforte. The Marcarini we are introducing is located in La Morra, one of the three most famous Barolo villages. It is a beautiful name, and her estate is just as beautiful as its name. Her winery and brewery are a large 17th-century medieval château that has been beautifully maintained over the centuries. You can feel the richness of its history, but it is not old or dilapidated, but rather elegant and majestic. From here you can get a bird's eye view of Mount Blanc, the highest mountain in Europe, and the panoramic view of Barolo. It is no wonder that five generations have lived here at the Château Magallanes and never left. If it were me, it would be hard to part with such a view. The owner has built a small cottage hotel to accommodate visitors, and there is a large hot spring in the winery where you can soak in the sunset when you are tired of playing in the vineyard. Magallanes has two famous vineyards in La Morra - Brunate (Pearl) and La Serra (Truby). The vines are mainly planted with red varieties such as Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Barbera. The pearly grapes are planted next to Bricco Roche-Brunate, the king of Barolo, and the grapes from these two vineyards are used to make the finest Margarennes. In recent years, the winery has made several major investments in rebuilding the cellars and renovating the winemaking facilities, pioneering the use of stainless steel tanks for the production of wine under the leadership of owner Boffa. In the existing building, which retains its Roman Empire walls 12 metres below ground, new fermenting tanks have been built to take advantage of gravity and a new barrel ageing room. A new bottling and labelling facility has also recently been fully installed. The winery's annual production is modest and the wines are systematically limited in order to maintain their consistently high quality. Unlike most Barolos, which are heavily tannic, Marjarini is a "velvety tannic Barolo", with a subtle yet powerful wine that can be enjoyed after 3 years in the bottle and has the potential to age for up to 30 years. It is also worth noting that all of Marjarini's red wines are made without the use of small oak barrels and are stored in large, old wooden barrels. This is because they believe that the grapes from their vineyards already have enough natural tannins and therefore do not need to be enhanced by the tannins of oak. This is also the traditional winemaking technique of many Barolo wineries.
