From a high-elevation vineyard that was replanted in 2006, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain reveals an opaque purple color as well as notes of mulberries, graphite, blackberries and a hint of charcoal. This dramatic, ostentatious 2012 is in keeping with the stylistic characteristics of this vintage. Multidimensional, stunningly pure and rich, it is a beauty that flirts with perfection. The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is a classic Howell Mountain wine built on beams of firm mountain tannins. Purplish fruit, floral notes, mocha, licorice and espresso open up over time. The 2012 is explosive and burly, but it is also at times a bit alcoholic. Still, this is a vivid, expressive wine that speaks to the unique personality of Howell Mountain as seen in the 2012 vintage. I imagine the 2012 will enjoy a long and broad drinking window starting pretty much upon release.

Sparse soils, high elevations, good drainage and the cool climates of the mountains form the backbone for these intense Cabernet Sauvignons. The Lokoya name honours the Native American tribe who lived on Mount Veeder in the western mountains of the Napa Valley prior to the arrival of viticulture in the 19th century. Paying tribute to those who farmed the Napa soils before them, Lokoya Cabernet reflects the soils and microclimates of the Napa Valley.
