The 2018 Clémentin de Pape Clement Blanc has gregarious lime juice, lemon meringue pie and ripe peach scents with hints of crushed rocks, wet slate and dill seed. Medium to full-bodied, it has a pleasant oiliness to the texture and oodles of freshness supporting the generous citrus fruit, finishing long.

The 2018 Clémentin de Pape Clement Blanc comes skipping out of the glass with bright, cheery notes of fresh pineapple, orange blossoms and Bosc pears, with hints of beeswax and yuzu. The medium-bodied palate has bags of vibrant tropical and citrus fruit flavors with a racy backbone and minerally finish.

The 2018 Clémentin de Pape Clément Blanc is an attractive, understated dry white. Orange peel, apricot, passionfruit and wild flowers all open in the glass. The Clémentin is a bit light, as it was in barrel, but has just enough creaminess and texture to bring all the elements together.

The 2018 Clémentin de Pape Clément Blanc is laced with white flowers, mint, candied lime and tropical fruits. Airy and yet deep in flavor, the Clémentin Blanc is intriguing. For now, the Blanc is a wine that is more about aromatics than fruit. It will be interesting to see what élevage brings and if the wine gains a bit more depth. The blend is 83% Sauvignon Blanc, 15% Sémillon and 2% Sauvignon Gris.

The 2018 Clémentin de Pape Clément, bottled June 2019, has just pulled away from the Le Prélat since I tasted them both 12 months ago, offering a little more delineation, with some lovely honeysuckle scents coming through. The palate is well balanced and slightly honeyed, delivering fine acidity and mango and white peach notes laced with vanilla toward the finish. Difficult to resist drinking now, though it should age well over several years.

The 2018 Clémentin de Pape Clément, bottled June 2019, has a tightly wound bouquet with pressed white flowers and light honeysuckle aromas. I would like just a little more intensity. The palate is medium-bodied with fresh acidity that cuts through the Clementine and tangerine notes, segueing into a lightly spiced and commendably fresh finish. Very fine.

Gentle aromas of acacia, white peach, lemon curd and wet stone, followed by creamy mango on the palate. It’s medium-to full-bodied with crisp acidity. Flavorful with smooth, generous layers of fruit. Drink or hold.
About the Producer
Château Pape Clément has been established in the Pessac-Léognan region since the 13th century and is a Cru Classé symbol of Bordeaux's great wine history. Château Pape Clément's vineyards cover 61 hectares. The vines are an average of 28 years old and are planted on Pyrenean clay-gravel soil. The vineyards are managed on a micro plot basis. Château Pape Clément is certified High Environmental Value Level 3, SME and Bee Friendly. For winemaking and aging, a first sorting takes place in the vineyard, followed by a second manual sorting of the bunches and then an optical sorting of the berries. Placed by gravity in wooden and stainless steel drums from 25 to 70 hl. Low temperature pre-fermentation maceration. Maceration lasts 28 days. Pour directly into barrels and vats.
