About the Producer
Jean-Philippe and Jean-Guillaume Bret have long cherished Vinzelles, dreaming of producing exceptional wines there. In 2000, they withdrew their family vineyards from the local cooperative and established Domaine de la Soufrandière. Initially, they focused on improving vineyard management, reducing yields, and implementing stricter selection processes. They converted to organic farming and now practice biodynamics on around six hectares in Pouilly-Vinzelles and Mâcon-Vinzelles, while also organically managing an additional five hectares in Saint-Véran and Pouilly-Fuissé. Both brothers studied oenology—Jean-Philippe in Dijon, where he worked at Comtes Lafon and Ridge Lytton Springs, and Jean-Guillaume in Avise, followed by an internship at Jean-Marie Guffens' négociant Maison Verget and work with Newton in California. Their commitment to organic and biodynamic farming, which prioritizes soil health and environmental harmony, is crucial for crafting balanced, vibrant wines that express their terroir. The Bret brothers are creating some of the most exciting wines in the Mâconnais region.
