The 2014 La Clarte de Haut-Brion Blanc has a lively bouquet with scents of lime flower, citrus fruit and freshly sliced grapefruit, the oak neatly integrated (39% new oak used this year). The palate is well balanced with a pleasant fatness on the entry, slightly honeyed with veins of lemongrass and ginger struck through the finish. Sure, it lacks a little persistence, but its sheer drinkability cannot be denied.

The La Clarté de Haut-Brion 2014 is a blend of 66% Sauvignon Blanc and 34% Sémillon, Jean-Philippe Delmas mentioning that he blended more of the former, two weeks prior to my visit. It has a straightforward bouquet with crisp grapefruit and melon scents, the Sauvignon Blanc more expressive at the moment. The palate is sharp and citric on the entry with a keen line of acidity, touches of pear coming through toward the finish. Fine.
About the Producer
La Clatte Haut-Brion is the new name of the old Haut-Brion plantation - this is the second white wine of Haut-Brion Boulogne and Haut-Brion Blanc, which produces about 1,000 cases per year. 2018 is mainly a Semillon based wine - 79.2% - with the rest Sauvignon Blanc. La Clarté de Haut-Brion offers aromas of citrus fruit, peach, grapefruit and pastry cream, with a full-bodied, deep and fleshy wine that is satiny and can be integrated into an ample fruit core supported by lively acidity and a chalky, sturdy structure. The second wine in the portfolio of Haut-Obrion and Haut-Obrion Cathedral, this works well in the bottle, offering a richer, more exciting wine than its 2018 predecessor.
