Drouhin's 2017 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru is superb, wafting from the glass with an appealing bouquet of raspberries, plums, licorice, spices and dried rose petals that exemplifies the appellation at its best. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, with superb concentration and depth, striking purity of fruit and juicy balancing acids, concluding with a long, precise finish. This routinely excellent cuvée—which is mainly made from estate fruit—continues to fly a bit under the radar, so readers would do well to seek it out.

The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru soars from the glass with an exquisite bouquet of raspberries, cassis, dried rose petals, cinnamon and cloves. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and supple, with an expansive attack that segues into a fleshy core of sweet and succulent fruit, framed by lively acids and melting tannins. Generous, open and expressive, this will offer a broad drinking window and is well worth seeking out.

The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru has an open nose of brambly red fruit, sous-bois and wilted rose petals, very pure and charming, and not dissimilar in style to François Bertheau's Chambolle 1er Cru. The palate is very harmonious, open and transparent. It feels lighter than others, yet the tension and precision will see this age with style, and perhaps it will not close down. Tempting now, but I would prefer to wait. Classy. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru comes from six lieux-dits. It has a vibrant blackberry and raspberry bouquet, touches of pressed iris and undergrowth developing with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied but with a little more amplitude than the Vosne-Romanée, if not quite the same sensuality toward the finish. Hopefully it will gain a little more terroir expression by the time of bottling.

Fascinating aromas of green coffee beans with ripe strawberries and berries. Medium to full body, round yet firm tannins and a flavorful and juicy finish. Lots of character already. Drink after 2022.
