Offering up aromas of candied citrus peel, hazelnuts, dried white flowers and apples, the 2012 Brut Premier Cru Cuvée des Hussards Vieilles Vignes is medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, with an open and expressive core, lively acids and a youthfully frothy mousse. It's showing well.
About the Producer
Maison Frerejean Frères was established in 2005 by three brothers in the Grand Cru village of Avize, Champagne. The winery benefits from over 40-year-old vines, with its Grand Cru cuvée sourced from grapes dating back to 1926. The unique chalky soil in the region compels the roots to search for water and nutrients, resulting in excellent acidity in the wines. Initially a passion project aimed at producing small-batch wines for friends and family, production has now grown to over 130,000 bottles per year, with a goal of not exceeding 300,000 bottles to maintain quality. Their motto reflects their philosophy: "We take our time to make a champagne for people who can take the time to drink it," resulting in a collection of exceptional champagnes that emphasize a mindful appreciation of quality and sustainability.
