The 2021 Chardonnay Myrna is a potent wine from Far Mountain. Dry-farmed vines in the Bald Mountain vineyard yield an especially deep, savory Chardonnay typical of sites in Sonoma Valley at elevation. Readers will find a complex, dynamic wine full of earthy, mineral complexity more than forward fruit. Dried pear, sage, crushed rocks and chamomile linger on the resonant finish. This is a serious Chardonnay for the dinner table.
About the Producer
Far Mountain, founded by winemaker Rodrigo Soto and his wife Mai Errazuriz in 2018, focuses on showcasing the unique terroirs of the Sonoma Valley mountains. Their first release, the acclaimed 2019 vintage, includes the Myrna Chardonnay and Fission Cabernet Sauvignon. The Myrna Chardonnay is sourced from the Bald Mountain Vineyard, featuring heritage California clones in dry-farmed, saline-rich soils, complemented by fruit from the Thornton vineyard for acidity. The Fission Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the Alta Vista vineyard, known for its 50-year-old, non-irrigated vines, producing structured wines with a graphite-mineral profile. Both wines are crafted using low-intervention techniques to express the vineyards' true character.
