Description
Macallan Rare Cask is a high-end limited edition single malt Scotch whisky series launched by the Macallan distillery since 2017, aiming to showcase its ultimate pursuit of the art of aging in sherry oak casks. Each batch of Rare Cask is carefully selected by the whisky master team of Macallan from thousands of sherry casks, highlighting their rarity and unique flavor. This whisky is fully matured in sherry oak casks from the Jerez region of Spain, without mixing with other types of casks, presenting a deep natural color and complex aroma. The liquid has a ruby-colored mahogany hue. The aroma combines soft vanilla, rich raisins, fresh apples, lemon and orange peel; the taste is dominated by sweet raisins, with fresh layers of vanilla, dark chocolate and citrus peel, and the aftertaste is silky smooth and long-lasting. The Rare Cask series is not only a tribute to the traditional sherry barrel craftsmanship by Macallan, but also a top-level masterpiece specially created for special occasions and collectors.
About the Producer
The Macallan was among the first distillers in Scotland to receive a legal license, establishing itself as one of the world’s premier single malt whiskies. Its creation is influenced by the natural raw materials from Spain, North America, and Scotland, all harmoniously blended with traditional methods and craftsmanship. Founded by Alexander Reid, a barley farmer and school teacher, The Macallan distillery is rooted in history. The original name of the area, “Maghellan,” derives from the Gaelic word “magh,” meaning fertile ground, and “Ellan,” referring to the monk St. Fillan, who had a close connection to the church that stood on The Macallan Estate until 1400. For centuries, local farmers had been producing whisky from their surplus barley during the quieter winter months.
