The 2022 Riesling Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese is very low on botrytis, as there was hardly any. The nose has a citric sheen but is rather shy and still under its veil of sulfur. Like candied lemon peel, the palate is of lemon-edged sweetness along a very bright, luminous path of freshness. This has something of boiled lemon candy, very pure, very vivid, very elegant. The finish is very long and lemon-focused. Sharp, sweet, beautiful. 70-80g/L of residual sweetness. (Sweet)

Family-owned for over 200 years, the winery has been managed by Ernst F. Loosen since 1988, who believes great wines reflect the essence of soil, climate, and grape variety. With a focus on old vines in historic Grand Cru sites of the Middle Mosel, he crafts independent, complex world-class wines. Dr. Loosen represents a revitalized German Riesling culture and has been a VDP member since 1993. The estate exclusively farms its vineyards sustainably, with grapes hand-harvested and selected. Grosse Lage sites are vinified separately to produce high-end dry Rieslings and classic Prädikat styles, including Trockenbeerenauslese, depending on vintage conditions.
