There are two and a half barrels of the 2021 Montrachet Grand Cru, a medium to full-bodied, enveloping and seamless wine redolent of pear, peach, freshly baked bread, baking spices and a subtle top note of petrol. Satiny and complete, it's deep and vibrant, concluding with a long, resonant finish.

The 2021 Montrachet Grand Cru has a more fruit-driven bouquet than Bouchard Père's Montrachet: orange blossom, light peach skin scents and a hint of rose water. It does not quite deliver the mineralité of the best Chevalier-Montrachets. The palate is fresh and tensile on the entry: orange rind and even a dab of Seville orange marmalade. Tangy, vibrant, quite feisty for a Montrachet, give this three or four years so that it can be tamed but don't expect the earth to move. This is not the first time that this wine has not shined at this tasting and my score was the mean for the group. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
