About the Producer
Established in 1875, Domaine des Brosses is located 10 kilometers south of Sancerre and was modernized by the Girard family, who took over the winery and its 11 hectares of vineyards in 1973. Nicolas Girard, the current owner, traveled extensively to learn about the world’s finest Sauvignon Blancs and the best vine cultivation techniques. He has applied this knowledge to the vineyards on the hillsides around Veaugues, where the vines benefit from well-draining soils and southern exposure. The estate features six parcels of vines, each contributing unique nuances to the finished wine, which is aged on its fine lees for several months to enhance the palate's weight. The wine exhibits aromas of white flowers, pear, and apricot, complemented by the racy acidity typical of Sancerre. In addition to Sancerre, Nicolas produces an exceptional Quincy from vineyards near Brinay, planted on sandy gravel soils, and a Menetou-Salon from vineyards near Humbligny and Morogues, which are planted on ‘terres blanches’ clay soils. Both wines are fermented at cool temperatures to preserve the bright aromatics of Sauvignon Blanc and are aged for four to six months on their lees, resulting in a rich, creamy texture on the palate.
