Good medium red. High-toned, expressive nose offers raspberry, strawberry, smoke and exotic spices. Sweet and lush in the mouth but less open than on the nose, showing a dominant flavor of raspberry. The initially sweet tannins turned a bit dusty with aeration.

(from young vines in Echezeaux, Grands-Echezeaux, Richebourg and Romanee-Saint-Vivant; previously offered in 2004, 2002 and 1999) Good bright red-ruby. Red cherry and earth aromas lifted by a floral perfume. Juicy and firmly built if a bit pinched; shows attractively pure flavors of red fruits and spices. I find the tannins a tad dry, as the wine has modest structure and stuffing by the standards of this cellar, but there's lovely fruit on display.
About the Producer
The Domaine de la Romanée-Conti or DRC is one of the most prestigious wine estates in the world with 25.5 hectares mostly in Vosne-Romanée on the route des Grands Crus in the vineyards of the Côte de Nuits of the Burgundy vineyards (named after the 1.8 hectare Clos de la Romanée-Conti, one of the most prestigious mythical grands crus in the world). The civil company of the same name was founded in 1942 by Edmond Gaudin de Villaine. It is now co-managed for their heir family by the winegrowers Aubert de Villaine and Perrine Fenal.
