The 2019 Corton-Charlemagne is the debut release from vineyards DRC controls through a long-term lease with Bonneau de Martray. It's a gorgeous wine packed with Charlemagne signatures. Lemon peel, white flowers, sage, mint and crushed rocks are all finely knit together, supported by insistent minerality and admirable delineation. I love the energy, precision and cut here. Needless to say, it will be fascinating to see what DRC does here. The 2019 is impressive to be sure, but I have to think that even more will be possible here in the coming years.

The maiden 2019 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru comes from the 2.9-hectare holding leased from Domaine Bonneau du Martray, located in the lieux-dits of En Charlemagne and Le Charlemagne in Aloxe-Corton and Pernand-Vergelesses respectively. It has an intense nose with scents of yellow raisin, Mirabelle, orange blossom and frangipane. Very well defined, aromatics that just want to please the olfactory senses. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly honeyed entry, fine acidity, generous in terms of weight and texture as you expect from a Corton-Charlemagne. Fine grip on the finish, this lingers wonderfully in the mouth. This is a very fine debut, yet I also feel that the best Corton-Charlemagnes from this up and coming producer lie ahead. 506 cases produced. About the Producer
The Domaine de la Romanée-Conti or DRC is one of the most prestigious wine estates in the world with 25.5 hectares mostly in Vosne-Romanée on the route des Grands Crus in the vineyards of the Côte de Nuits of the Burgundy vineyards (named after the 1.8 hectare Clos de la Romanée-Conti, one of the most prestigious mythical grands crus in the world). The civil company of the same name was founded in 1942 by Edmond Gaudin de Villaine. It is now co-managed for their heir family by the winegrowers Aubert de Villaine and Perrine Fenal.
