I had hoped this wine would turn out slightly better, as it was one of the handful of wines that didn’t live up to my predicted range (most exceeded it or were at least at the higher end in 2009). A consumer-friendly, elegant wine with plenty of crushed rock and black cherry notes, it has medium weight, a creamy texture, and good purity and depth, it is just not quite as rich and as long as I had expected. Anticipated maturity: now-2020.

There is an almost sorbet-like quality to this bouquet, good intensity and well defined, macerated red cherries, orange sorbet, a touch of dried prune and just a hint of seaweed. The palate is very well balanced, dances on the tongue, good acidity and well integrated oak. Linear, focused, wonderful clarity on the finish. Once the aromatic coalesce then this could be a winner. It’s not better than their brilliant 2005, but this 2009 is further evidence of just how much qualitative progress this large estate in Fronsac has made. Deep ruby./purple-tinged with loads of crushed rock, cranberry, and cherry notes, the wine has a creamy texture, medium to full body, and impressive purity and length. Drink it over the next decade.
