As usual, Stephane Dief has produced a captivating wine from this over-performing estate nestled far in the northern Médoc, "where the busses don't run". The 2022 Clos Manou is a blend of 52% Merlot, 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3.5% Petit Verdot and a smattering of Cabernet Franc. It stands out for its aromas of cassis, dark berries and plums mingled with peonies, violets and a subtle hint of cigar box. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, with a seamless, fleshy mouthfeel girdled by racy acids, concluding with a long, vibrant finish.

A blend of 52% Merlot, 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3.5% Petit Verdot and 2.5% Cabernet Franc, the 2022 Clos Manou is, as always, a real success. Evoking aromas of dark wild berries, licorice, pencil lead and cigar wrap, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated with a seamless, fleshy core of fruit and velvety tannins that lead to a long, elegant and lead pencil-inflected tannins.

The 2022 Clos Manou has a well-defined and succinct bouquet with blackberry, wild hedgerow, blue fruit and crushed stone aromas unfurling with aeration. This is heads above other Médoc wines that I tasted from this flight. The palate is medium-bodied, detailed and very harmonious, with seamlessly integrated oak, a fluidity that marks this out and exquisite mineralité on the finish. This is brilliant.

Blackcurrants, cocoa powder and rosemary on the nose, followed by a juicy, flavorful and full-bodied palate. The tannins are ripe and creamy. Attractive already, but better from 2026.

Passionate about wine, Françoise and Stéphane Dief vinified their 1st vintage in 1998. A success story. From their high standards, their passion, and their determination, a vineyard, a winery and, finally, a wine inspired by the greatest Bordeaux vintages were born. Four grape varieties - Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon and Petit Verdot - are grown on this Médoc estate, without the use of chemical weedkillers.
