Description
A wine with considerable ageing potential made in the traditional Médoc way, Château Clerc Milon is the result of a particularly successful marriage between gravel and clay-limestone terroirs and Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes. Powerful, tannic, full-bodied and rich in fruit, it also has all the typical elegance of the finest Pauillac wines.

The Clerc-Milon 2005 has a taut blackberry, smoke and raspberry-scented nose with very good definition and focus – real class here. The palate is medium-bodied with a fine svelte entry, fine tannins with a good structure underneath. Very pure and focused, a coquettish little Clerc-Milon with a vibrant finish suffused with great nervosite. Drink 2010-2020. Tasted November 2008.

A blend of 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot, 1% Carmenere and 7% Cabernet Franc and displays a very high toned, almost ostentatious bouquet that might be trying a bit too hard to impress. It is very pure with creme de cassis and blueberry notes, although it does not have the panache of the 2002. The palate is medium-bodied with a grippy entry and crisp acidity, but it is very foursquare at the moment with a leafy finish that would benefit from more persistency. Still, it is well crafted and serves well as an archetypal Englishman’s claret. Drink now-2018. Tasted April 2013.

The nose is more reticent than d'Armailhac with a faint whiff of smoke and blackberry developing. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and pure black fruit with a touch of plum. Become more cohesive towards the finish which has a citrus edge. Fine. Tasted April 2005.

Despite the 2004's attractive black fruit characteristic, excellent depth, and hints of chocolate, roasted herbs, and smoke, its steely background, monolithic character, firmness, austerity, tart acidity, and tannins are worrisome. Hopefully, it will age in a positive manner, along the lines of the 1988. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2018.

This outstanding effort displays loads of cassis fruit interwoven with notions of espresso roast, white chocolate, and menthol. It possesses a terrific front end, good mid-section, and moderately high tannin in the finish. Approximately 15,000 cases were produced. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2025.

A polished and very beautiful wine with blueberry, currants and light mint character. Full body with super-integrated tannins and a long, long finish. All in finesse. So lovely now.
About the Producer
A legendary terroir, prestigious neighbours, a providential encounter: the history and the success of Château Clerc Milon are summed up in these three words. The terroir is that of Pauillac, where some of the world’s finest wines are made. The neighbours are Mouton and Lafite, illustrious First Growths whose nearby vines can be seen from the terrace of the Château. The encounter was with Baron Philippe, who in 1970 acquired the then badly neglected estate and decided to restore it to its status as a Classified Growth. Now, thanks to Baroness Philippine, Clerc Milon, one of the most highly regarded châteaux in the Bordeaux region, can boast technical facilities and reception areas worthy of its reputation.
