Tasting notes

Reviewed by: Neal Martin
The 2019 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru "Cuvée Classique" has a fragrant nose with red berry fruit, still that touch of struck flint, fine focus with just a touch of reduction at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grip on the entry, quite chalky tannins, white pepper towards the prolonged finish. Just as I expected having tasted this in barrel last year, this Cuvée Classique is ageing with style.

There are approximately 12,000 bottles of the 2019 Clos de Vougeot Cuvée Classique this year and it contains about 70% whole bunch, matured in around one-third new oak. The attractive bouquet presents dark cherries, raspberry coulis, crushed stone and even light flinty scents. The palate is medium-bodied with white pepper sprinkled over the dark berry fruit. Fresh and mineral-driven with a classically styled, energetic, almost Morey-inspired finish. Excellent.
