The 2015 Chinon Clos du Chêne Vert is a Right Bank Cabernet Franc from the west part of Chinon. The vineyard is west/southwest-facing and located on clay sandstone. This has a beautifully fragrant, floral and elegant bouquet of perfectly ripe dark and red fruits (wild strawberries). This is ripe and sweet yet with delicate concentration, great finesse and a Bordeaux character. Silky textured and smooth, with very elegant juice and remarkable finesse, this is a very persistent, fresh and tensioned Chinon with great aging potential. Aged for one year in 228- and (increasingly) 400-liter French barriques plus another year in tank.
About the Producer
The Domaine Charles Joguet vineyard has distant and somewhat curious origins. As was the case for many houses, the invasion of phylloxera and mechanisation led the Beaudoin-Joguet-Malécault family to practice mixed farming. However, the vineyard part of their property in Sazilly, entirely planted with Cabernet Franc, dates back to 1830 and perhaps longer. As for the Clos de la Dioterie, it was under vine one or two centuries before 1789.
