The Castello di Bolgheri 2021 Bolgheri Superiore is a classic expression from the region and is a wine you can look upon as a measuring stick for vintage variation along the Tuscan Coast. The 2021 growing season is endowed with power, richness and density. There is harmony here, but the wine definitely leaves a bold impression that is marked with black fruit, toasted spice and campfire ember. The blend is 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Merlot, and 35,000 bottles were made. The US retail price was supplied to me by the producer, but I can't help notice that it has doubled in two years.

The purity of blackcurrant and lavender is greatly appreciated. The palate is focused and very polished, with substance and an air of excellence. Medium body with integrated tannins and a light tomato-leaf and currant aftertaste. Drink after 2027.
About the Producer
Castello di Bolgheri, the oldest winery in the Bolgheri area, was built in 1796 within the walls of the Bolgheri hamlet. Owned by the Zonin family since 1979, it covers approximately 900 hectares, with 125 dedicated to vineyards. Their Bolgheri Superiore wine, a Tuscan blend, exhibits a ruby-red hue with purple highlights, releasing aromas of black currant, orange zest, and beetroot, complemented by earthy and tobacco notes. The full-bodied palate features refined tannins and a lingering finish—perfect alongside steak or lamb.
