About the Producer

Domain Buisson Charles is a small family-owned winery located in the Cote de Beaune appellation in Burgundy, France. It has an impression of understatement and modesty compared to other wineries in the region, but its wines are wonderful and uncompromising. Founded by Michel Buisson, Charles de Bisson has been run and managed since 2001 by Michel's daughter, Catherine Essa-Buisson, and son-in-law, Patrick Essa. Patrick is a wine nerd who has tasted Burgundy's wines and has published numerous articles on his website about wine tasting. Someone commented that if Patrick had a corkscrew in his hand, no one would ever be able to talk to him, because all he could see was wine! Louis, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Aicha, has inherited his father's passion for wine and is now studying at a prestigious winemaking school in Switzerland, where he is expected to become the next generation of the winery's successor. The vineyards of Chateau Bisson Charles cover a total area of 6 hectares, 4 of which are located in the village of Meursault, in the first growths of Les Cras, Les Charmes, Bouches Cheres and Goutte d'Or. In addition, a number of Burgundian red and white grape varieties are planted in the vineyards of the villages of Pommard, Volnay and Chassagne-Montrachet in the Bernese Hills. The climatic conditions and soil types vary from one vineyard to another, and the vines range in age from 30 to 90 years. These old vines produce very low yields, but produce wines with strong aging potential and good concentration of flavor. The vineyard is ploughed regularly to maintain a good soil structure. The winery does not use herbicides in the cultivation of the grapes and does not intentionally increase the yield of the grapes. The Aicha's believe that a sustainable approach is the long term way to go. The grapes are picked by hand, then sorted on the vineyard on a screening table, and then quickly transported to the winery for pressing using airbags. The resulting must is fermented, clarified in barrels and then matured in oak barrels (from 7% to 30% new oak). Finally, the new wine is bottled either with a little clarification or without gumming. The Château produces far more white wines than red wines, with the latter accounting for only about 1/3 of the former. Annual production is low, with a maximum of 35,000 bottles. The wines produced by Chateau Bisson Charles are very affordable and often sell out quickly. The wines of Meursault La Goutte d'Or, Meursault Premier Cru Les Charmes, Pommard "En Chiveau" and Volnay Premier Cru En Santenots are concentrated and full-bodied, with a pure bouquet. These wines are concentrated and intense, with pure and expressive aromas and excellent balance, perfectly expressing the crystal purity and richness of Meursault wines.
