The Brovia 2015 Barolo Brea Vigna Ca' Mia offers good balance and an authentic representation of the vintage. You can sense some of the heat of the growing season here, thanks to the wine's open and accessible persona; it enters the palate with softness and elegance. This was the first of the single-vineyard wines from Brovia released this year that I tasted in a flight meant to increase in intensity.

The 2015 Barolo Brea Vigna Ca' Mia captures all the best the vintage has to offer. Black cherry, plum, espresso, sage, menthol, licorice and leather are all kicked up a few notches in a decidedly dark, strapping Barolo that screams with Serralunga character. Exotic, dark and totally alluring, the 2015 has a very bright future, but readers should be prepared to be patient, as the tannins clearly need time to soften.

Very fresh and vibrant with flowers and oranges buttressing the ripe berry character. Full-bodied, chewy and structured with a rich and powerful finish. Beautiful intensity at the end. Drink from 2022.

About the Producer

Brovia was founded in 1863 and remains to this day a small, family owned and run winery. Broiva has one of the most impressive vineyards collection in the entire Barolo: 19 hectares of vineyards in Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga d'Alba which read like a list of the greatest vineyards in Barolo: Garbèt Suѐ, Rocche, Villero in Castiglione Falletto, and Brea in Serralunga d’Alba. Brovia’s production is tiny, around 60,000 bottles of wines per annum (half of it are Barolo). Yields in the vineyard and also in the winemaking are kept very low to produce the best wines. Brovia practices organic farming, uses natural yeast fermentation, maceration time is around 20-25 days. The wines are aged in the most traditionist method: in 3,000 liters botti (big barrels) until it is ready for bottling unfiltered.
