About the Producer
Domaine Denis Berthaut, located in the Fixin appellation in Burgundy, France, is a long-established family-owned winery. The vineyards of Berthaut cover an area of approximately 13 hectares, mainly in Fixan, Gevrey-Chambertin, Vosne-Romanee and Flagey-Echezeaux. The main variety planted in the vineyard is Pinot Noir, and in 2010 the estate added Chardonnay to one of its vineyards in Fixan, which saw its first harvest in 2014. In terms of viticulture, the winery follows the natural evolution of the vines, planting them in an organic and sustainable way, cultivating, weeding, de-worming and harvesting by hand, without the use of chemical fertilisers or herbicides. This green approach to planting and harvesting facilitates better aeration, thus effectively preventing pests and diseases and allowing the grapes to reach their ideal state of ripeness. The traditional winemaking culture and the excellent craftsmanship of the Berthaut family have been passed on and enhanced under the careful management of the Berthaut family. Today, the estate has produced more than a dozen fine wines, most of them red, and the only white wine is the Domaine Denis Berthaut Champs des Charmes, Fixin, France, made from Chardonnay. The wines of Domaine Denis Berthaut are refined, elegant and smooth, with a strong capacity for ageing, and have won the approval and praise of many industry professionals and consumers.
