Tasting notes

Reviewed by: Neal Martin
The 2020 Saint-Aubin En Remilly 1er Cru has a fresh, vivacious nose with wet limestone scents filtering through the green apple and citrus aromas. The palate is very well balanced, linear and Puligny-like, and quite strict and penetrating, leading to a citrus-fresh finish. I can just imagine this with some fresh oysters! Very fine.
About the Producer
Domaine Bachelet-Monnot, located in the Maranges region of Burgundy, was established in 2005 by brothers Marc and Alexandre Bachelet. Although the winery has only been in existence for a short time, it has attracted the attention of critics and enthusiasts for its vibrant, structured, layered, richly textured and lively wines. During the winemaking process, the white wines are slowly pressed and then aged in large 350 litre oak barrels before being transferred to stainless steel vats to maintain the freshness of the wines. Depending on the type of wine, different levels of new oak are used, around 25%. In the vineyard, no herbicides are used, only ploughing and mowing to keep the soil soft, and bud picking is strictly enforced to control yields. The winery is located in Maranges, near the Santenay appellation. The brothers own two first growths of exceptional quality in the village, "La Boutiere" and "La Fussiere", as well as the "Les Parons" of Santenay. Their wines are elegant and fresh, with rich fruit flavours and an intense minerality. These talented brothers have become the rising stars of Burgundy.
