Description
This is Bass Phillip's best chardonnay grown at Leongatha South, South Gippsland, Victoria. Bass Phillip uses close planting, extremely low cropping, no toxic chemicals & Natural winemaking. Bass Phillip respect the forces of nature, driven by the Moon, the Planet, and the Earth. This wine always has intensity, full natural acidity and great length. It will develop over the next eight years plus. Less than one acre, planted since 1979. This section of the vineyard is more than 40 years old today , it has started to deliver complex nuances and has a very long-flavour, lingers cleanly on your palate. Typically, the wine has a fully integrated, complex blend of stone fruits, nuts and soft oak, riding on top of a balanced acidic backbone. It has very good depth and breadth on the palate, some nuttiness alongside the stone fruit flavours. Builds on the finish, complex and thought-provoking. Meant to age 10 years or more.

The Bass Phillip vineyards were first established in the southeastern corner of Australia in 1979, specializing in high-quality pinot noir and chardonnay wines. Made in a simple and traditional manner, with low-cropped vineyards, no irrigation and minimal intervention in the winery, the wines of Bass Phillip display flavours which are characteristic of the region and their individual vineyards. Deep mineral-rich soils, natural high humidity, and cooler temperatures in South Gippsland is also part of the magic that delivers the length, complexity, flavors, balanced acidity, and natural minerality to Bass Phillip wines. The Biodynamic practice at Bass Phillip is planned according to the lunar cycles. Adopting these practices means that each vintage of Bass Phillip wines exhibits the characteristics of “mother nature’s” temperament, expressing the harmony of earth, moon and sun.
